”A mind that is stretched by new experience
can never go back to its old dimensions”

Oliver Wendell Holmes

I wrote this experience in english to distribute it to some friends of mine that only speak english. I like the idea of passing experiences around to friends. Alterations in consciousness are nothing to fear as long as they are dealt with care and caution and you have people around you that you trust deeply. I rather avoid calling these substances drugs, due to the negative connotation that the term drug is bringing with it. In my eyes psychedelics can give you insights into things that are for the normal - in whatever context - perception impossible to realize. I dont use drugs as an escape from reality but as an experience within another reality. The psychedelic drug triggers the effect, but it does not cause it. The effects are body and/or mind focused, but they are naturally assessed within our personality and only stimulated by the substance, wherefore I believe that the alterations are only triggered, not caused, even though a correlation is undeniably.

Setting:
I was am currently in my Erasmus year, studying in Porto, Portugal, and enjoying this city. A friend of mine from Germany came visiting me and brought a friend with him. Ill call them here not by their real names and instead D and P. D is a good friend of mine and I know him for almost 15 years and P is a friend of D and I did not know her before. We spend a few days together in early December, walking and partying the city. Even though it was December, the weather was still astonishingly good. Bright sun during the days, so hot that we could sit outside with a t-shirt, but very cold as soon as the sun set. It was a Saturday and we started the day very late with a brunch in a park close by and the gorgeous sweets that are so typically for Portugal. So we were in a pretty relaxed mood that day and decided to go in the evening to a concert or a mini-festival. Bands playing all day long in an abandoned building at the riverside which I will describe a bit later. But in the end we were having a great day and the evening was going to be its paramount.

The preparation
Before leaving the house we thought about what were going to take, as there were some options. Either cocaine, which we still had to buy, but we knew people selling it, or MDMA or 2C-B. I had some experience with MDMA in the past, but the others were in general more experienced with consciousness alternating substances. We decided to take the MDMA and the 2C-B with us and eventually we could get some other stuff later. Before leaving, we rolled a joint with some quite strong Marijuana that I still had here and with a light highness we left. It was weed that hit more on the body, but the walking around was easeful and I felt very relaxed. We walked through the city center with all the tiny and colorful, often shabby houses and narrow streets where people were going out to bars, towards the place where the party was going to happen. When we arrived, the party was already underway and people gathered in front of the stages. The location was an old abandoned warehouse from the beginning of the 20th Century, next to the riverside. I think it was used originally by a rather rich company or family enterprise, as the entrance was garnished with a huge head of a devil that was chiseled into the stone. The party was in the basement, a huge hall with round arches and the two stages were diametrical in two opposite corners. When one band ended, the sound check for the following band was already done and they could start right away from the other corner of the room and all the people rushed over to the opposite side. Like this there was always music and no breaks were the atmosphere sagged. The music was in the beginning more Punk to Rock and I did not really liked it. It was too aggressive, too much noise and to little melody and it was more annoying than joy. Unsure about our decision what to take, we realized that the music during the concert was constantly shifting from Punk music to Rock music to ambient Rock music so that we thought that it will finally arrive at a genre that would fit our mood.
No one of us had tried 2C-B before and we therefore divided the Nexus and took one half each. I forgot how many milligrams one contains, because I got them some time ago and it is therefore not sure how much pure 2C-B we took.
The Bands were still making noise rather than music, but it was very funny to see the people in the concert and we decided to leave the party and go for a beer in some close by tavern. On our way there we realized that something has changed but no one of us could really name what is was. It was a feeling of subtle pleasure without a real manifestation. We were totally capable of everything we did, we could see things clearly and our minds were in no sense limited by any restriction. The little tavern was already closing and we were the last guests. They still had to clean everything which took them a whileso we could sit down, have a beer and eat a bag of chips that we got there as well. The walls were made of tiles and the entire interior was quite unpleasant but functional. The people were working silently and we were rather sure they would not understand our German so we could talk about everything. The content of our conversation was about the treatment of animals by humans and the perversion of animal suffering for human delight. We also talked about the trip that was on a rise. P was explaining how she makes the reality check when using psychedelics. It was a rather impressive reality check: Look at your hands and if you have the impression that you can see things like veins or sinews you are probably on a level. My hands were not looking spooky, but something about my perception has changed and they really looked a bit different. A clear signal of the 2C-B was when D looked for minutes in total fascination at the tiles at the wall. He studied them and there seemed to be no other thing on earth than these blue patterned tiles. It is normally nothing that is really attracting the sight but on psychedelics you can get lost in forms and patterns very easily. After finishing our beer and the chips, we returned to the party, taking a short break on our way to water the river.

The first wave
In the meantime, the party has changed and was now more a Postrock or ambient rock party. The lights were brighter and more colorful than before and the unplastered concrete walls were illuminated in alternating colors from below, which gave the atmosphere a notion of contrast. The place was not chosen because of its beauty or its location within the city, but because of its incomplete, a bit forfeited character. The raw industrial warehouse character contrasted the ambient music and the light installation made it a very comfortable place to stay and party. The current band finished and everybody went to the other side of the hall to face the second stage and the new artist that was starting. It was now already a DJ and no band anymore, even though he had some live elements in his set as well. His music was forcing us to dance. the beat stimulated my legs and the melodies were accompanied by my hands doing invisible stuff. I felt the ground intense and could really feel the connection that I had with the earth. Thats also why I was standing very safe and my movements were based on a solid base. The feeling of understanding the music came up. I could really be in the music. D was exploring the music with me and P danced and was laughing nonstop. In the words of the first synthesizer of MDMA and 2C-B Shulgin about one of his first trip: ”The music was voluptuous, almost three-dimensional” [TIHKAL]. Nothing to add here! Each of us had a never ending grin covering the face and the eyes shone pure joy. I was totally detached from everything around me, but in a good way. Everybody had the same right to be there and there was no competition but full respect for the others. I sat on a box with sound equipment and started to dance with my eyes closed and as the box had wheels, it started moving. No worries, but deep fulfillment. After dancing full power to the music some more, I got exhausted and had to rest a bit.
I sat at a place that was covered with sand that came from an opening in the wall. This was our little island with beach. We sat and rolled a Joint. Some people joined us and the marijuana passed around. The shift that was caused by the marijuana was subtle and very smooth, going more on the legs again, but the legs were already controlled by the music so that this was no problem at all. They just moved and moved and moved. I have never before felt such an ease while dancing. I felt almost no limits to moving and especially no restrictions by my mind hindering me from really going with the flow. Often people around us smiled with amuse when they saw us dancing and it appeared to us as if their eyes were asking for the same thing we had taken. We made our own party within the party. At one point I took out my LED pois and started to play. Its these little balls that you swing around you and it makes really nice flowing effects. I was dancing with it and my eyes were closed, but I was feeling very safe and the music pushed me and the pois around.

The second wave
The effect of the 2C-B was declining and to contradict this, we shared the last half of the 2C-B and one half of a very strong MDMA between the three of us. It took quite some time until it came, but when it came the component of the MDMA was unmistakably identifiable. Something in the perception changed and its hard to tell exactly what it is. In the comparison between these two, MDMA was something that made me observe everything around me, whereas 2C-B was more active and driving me to dance with the music. Both are equal in changing their attitude towards other people. I can always see so many beautiful people around me. Everyone is shining and every personality is sparkling. On the party there were many security guys who looked more like police officers and we caught ourselves dancing right in front of their eyes and it felt strange, but great to be totally on a trip and the police around us not doing anything. Total harmony!
Graham Hancock proposed that every politician should be required to experience Ayahuasca ten times before taking office. This claim can in my eyes be extended to all people and more substances. From every trip I undertook, I learned something new from which I believe I had not learned it otherwise.

The decline
With D I went to the riverside where we worked on our silly walk skills. Something that feels really good to do and its so much fun. Everyone should do that once. We talked a bit and then went back to the party. The atmosphere has now arrived at a predominant electronic music party. The lights were amazing and after dancing for some time we sat next to one of the spotlights that colored the walls in mind-blowing ways. I did not had the urge to dance more and instead was totally ok with just sitting on the ground and observing the people around me. I felt not tired in a way that I wanted to go to bed straight, but nonetheless there was some fatigue. We decided to head home. The party was awesome, not yet over, but on the subside. We decided to avoid the hills that strech all over Porto and instead take a taxi. I havent taken any Taxi in a while, but it felt so good to not walk the distance and rush through the city sitting in an upholstered seat of an old Mercedes. One stop at a kiosk to get three final beers and then we came home. Unfortunately we did not had any food at home and the pizza delivery was closed on Sunday at 6 AM, so we made do with one last Joint and our beer. And some chilly music for the pre-sleep phase. The sleep afterwards was very calm without any delays.
